Costantino Pitzalis is Arthritis Research UK Professor of Rheumatology at the William Harvey Research Institute, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry Queen Mary University of London.
He is Head of Centre for Experimental Medicine and Rheumatology and Deputy Director of the William Harvey Research Institute.
His research interests focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of inflammation and autoimmunity in chronic arthritis particularly rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis with an emphasis on translational research and biomarkers discovery through stratified medicine approaches.
He is Director of an Arthritis Research UK Experimental Arthritis Treatment Centre at Barts, dedicated to the development and testing of new anti-arthritic drugs and experimental medicine.
Professor Pitzalis leads a Research Team of approximately 50 Researchers (Clinicians and Scientists) supported by a grant income over £15M and has published over 220 peer-reviewed papers in the field of inflammation, immunity and arthritis.
He serves on the editorial board of the Annals of Rheumatic Diseases and several other Rheumatology and Immunology Journals.
He has served on the Scientific Committee of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR), the Heberden Committee of the British Society for Rheumatology, the Research Grant Committee of Arthritis Research UK, and several other national and international committees.
